![Sue Photo FPO]() Admit it, this isn’t exactly the kind of industry you’d expect to find a woman in and definitely not as an expert. But that’s exactly what Sue Friesen is, an expert in the Security industry.So how did it happen?
Always mechanically inclined even as a child, and always around tools Sue was encouraged and brought along by her machinist father and grandfather.Her grandfather was also an inventor which exposed Sue to that “innovators spirit” and “can do” attitude and ethic.
Sue began working for a locksmith in the 70’s that desperately needed help cleaning and organizing his shop she took to it very well and eventually took the knowledge she gained from that experience and even parlayed that into a consulting business for a time.
Associates Lock and Safe started in 1980 by Sue’s sister and brother-in-law (security and locksmithing runs in the family, but that’s another story).Sue came out from the Mid West in 1989 and took the business over in 1995.
Why security for nearly 30 years?When asked that question Sue rattles off a list so fast it sounds like tumblers releasing in a lock: - Mentally Stimulating – “ I get to be a detective and problem solver at the same time.”

- Physical Work- “This work is very hands on, you’re constantly manipulating, moving, turning, pushing and pulling things.I like that”
What’s next?Staying on the edge of the industry and teaching what I know to others so that when someone calls and has a salvage trunk from the 1880;s that needs opening Associates Lock & Safe Services can do it without damaging the lock. And if Sue'sreally taught them well they'll know where to find the key.
